Our Amalgam Free Approach

"With the continued controversy over Amalgam fillings it was my decision not to do them in my practice. I believe that with the new materials available today, composite restorations are a much better choice for my guests. Composite (tooth colored) restorations are much better in my opinion because they actually bond to the tooth structure, unlike mercury fillings, which over time, allow decay to enter underneath and migrate to the root. Most patients don't know there is a problem until the tooth begins to hurt, and by this time it's too late, the patient will more than likely need serious restoration treatment - a root canal.

Composite fillings do cost more to provide and the procedure, when done correctly, is slightly longer. I felt that they are more effective and are more aesthetically pleasing, not to mention - they don't contain mercury!

In our office we spend extra time with each guest accessing every restoration they have, by the use of a digital intra-oral camera. These images are stored in their computer chart so that access is just a click away. We look for 'red flags' such as old, large, leaking areas. We believe it is important that the guests see the areas and is aware they need immediate attention - replacement." - Dr. Neville.

Daniel Island Aesthetic Dentistry is proud to be a Mercury free office.
